World Cup 2026 Bracket
FIFA World Cup™ knockout stage from Round of 32 to the Final
The 2026 FIFA World Cup introduces a completely new tournament format. For the first time in history, 48 national teams will compete — up from 32 in Qatar 2022. The tournament is co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with 104 total matches played across 16 venues from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Group Stage (June 11–25)
The 48 teams are divided into 12 groups of 4. Each team plays 3 group matches, totaling 72 group stage games. The top 2 teams from each group (24 teams) advance automatically, plus the 8 best third-place finishers — giving 32 teams a spot in the knockout bracket.
Round of 32 — A Brand New Round
The Round of 32 is entirely new to the FIFA World Cup. Group winners are seeded against third-place qualifiers, while group runners-up face each other. The bracket is structured so that teams from the same group cannot meet until the Quarterfinals or later. This round features 16 matches played between June 28 and July 1.
Knockout Bracket (Round of 16 → Final)
From the Round of 16 onward, it's single elimination. If a match is tied after 90 minutes, it goes to 30 minutes of extra time, then penalties if still level. A team needs to win 5 consecutive knockout matches (R32, R16, QF, SF, Final) to lift the trophy — one more than in any previous World Cup. The final is at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.

Based on current betting odds, FIFA rankings, and squad depth, the leading contenders for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are:
- Spain — Defending champions with one of the youngest squads in the tournament. Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Gavi anchor a midfield that dominated Euro 2024 and the 2022 World Cup.
- Argentina — Lionel Messi's likely farewell tournament. The 2022 champions have a deep squad even beyond Messi, with Julián Álvarez and Enzo Fernández emerging as world-class talents.
- France — Kylian Mbappé leads a squad that reached the 2022 final. Drawn into a tough Group I with Senegal and Norway, but historically strong in knockout stages.
- Brazil — Five-time champions return with Vinícius Jr., Rodrygo, and Endrick. Drawn into Group C with Morocco, they'll be eager to avenge their 2022 quarterfinal exit.
- England — Perennial contenders who reached the Euro 2024 final. Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden form one of the most talented attacking trios in the tournament.
- Germany — Co-hosts (7 of 16 venues are in the USA, but 3 group matches in Mexico). Strong home support, and Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala give them a creative edge.
Dark horses include Portugal (Group K with Colombia), Netherlands (Group F with Japan), and United States as co-hosts with home crowd advantage in Group D.
Group I (France, Senegal, Iraq, Norway) is widely considered the 2026 Group of Death. France are 2018 champions and 2022 finalists, Senegal were 2022 Round of 16 participants and Africa Cup of Nations champions, Norway feature Erling Haaland — one of the best strikers in the world — and Iraq qualified through the intercontinental playoffs with strong recent form.
Other tough groups include Group K (Portugal, DR Congo, Uzbekistan, Colombia) — pitting two historically strong South American/European sides together — and Group F (Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Tunisia), where Japan's 2022 giant-killing form makes them dangerous for any opponent.
With only 2 automatic qualification spots per group, even top-ranked teams face real elimination risk in these groups. The 8 best third-place spots provide a safety net, but finishing third means a likely tougher Round of 32 draw.
32 teams advance to the knockout stage: the top 2 from each of the 12 groups (24 teams) plus the 8 best third-place finishers.
The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA on July 19, 2026.
If tied after 90 minutes, the match goes to 30 minutes of extra time. If still tied, the winner is decided by penalty shootout.
Group winners face third-place qualifiers, while group runners-up face each other. The bracket is structured so teams from the same group can't meet until later rounds.
The Round of 32 begins June 28, 2026, followed by Round of 16 (July 3-6), Quarterfinals (July 9-10), Semifinals (July 13-14), Third Place (July 18), and Final (July 19). To track every knockout match live with push notifications, search Bola 2026 on the App Store or Google Play — it's free.
